Reflecting On The Past Year
Dear Girls Inc. Community,
This past Friday, March 12, marked one year since we last went about our business as usual. We left our offices and ended our workdays thinking that for a little while we would have to adjust to the minor disruption and uncertainty of the new coronavirus that was so contagious and worrisome. As I look back at emails from that day, it is clear I couldn’t even imagine the year that awaited us. I confess I still really haven’t fully absorbed it.
But what I do know, when I look back on the past twelve months, is that we have accomplished something unprecedented in an unthinkable environment: Girls Inc. is still here, as determined as ever, and dedicated as always to supporting our girls, families, and the communities we serve. Thanks to the excellent leadership of our affiliate executives and the successful efforts of so many staff, volunteers, board members, partners, and supporters across our network we continue to inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold daily.
To say the very least, this has not been an easy year; unfortunately, we also know that the circumstances we find ourselves in are not over. However, I would like to take a moment to recognize this significant milestone. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your unwavering commitment to making sure our girls have the support they need to continue to thrive.
As members of the Girls Inc. community, we know that girls have tremendous potential. We have seen how they have stepped forward this year to lead us in positive change, and how they have done their part to help our communities during the toughest of times. I am inspired by their determination and leadership. That has without a doubt kept me going. I am fueled by them, and grateful to them.
In fact, I am grateful for everything we have achieved together—for and with our girls. We must stay the course for them. If we do, we will all be better off for it.
