Girls Inc. Welcomes the Inaugural Canada Teen Advocacy Council

Girls Inc. is excited to announce the inaugural cohort of the Canada Teen Advocacy Council (TAC). Drawing from Girls Inc. Affiliates across Canada, this girl-led advocacy group will spend the year building advocacy skills and knowledge, then putting those skills to use to advocate for themselves and their communities. The Canada TAC and the U.S. TAC will also have the exciting opportunity to get to know their fellow advocates from across the border and participate in cross-cultural collaboration. Learn more about these outstanding leaders below!

Amelia, Girls Inc. of Upper Canada

Hi! I’m Amelia (she/her), a 16-year-old Grade 11 student from Brockville, Ontario. I adore reading, love to dance, and enjoy jumping into all kinds of school activities. I’m honored to have the chance to be part of the Girls Inc. Teen Advocacy Council and help create meaningful, positive change for girls in my community.

Brianna, Girls Inc. of Durham

My name is Brianna, and I’m from Ajax, Ontario. I attend Girls Inc. of Durham, and I’m currently in Grade 12. I first joined Girls Inc. at seven years old as a summer camper and later became part of the after-school programming at age twelve, which has helped me grow into a more confident and positive version of myself. Some fun facts about me are that my favorite color is purple, I’m a Leo, I love spending time at Canada’s Wonderland with friends, and my favorite rides are the Yukon Striker and the Leviathan.

Diandra, Girls Inc. of Durham

Hi! I’m Diandra, a grade 11 student from Ontario, Canada, and a proud member of Girls Inc of Durham. I started with Girls Inc. as a young camper and later returned as part of the Summer Camp staff. In my free time, I love crocheting, dancing, and spending time with my friends and family. I’m grateful for the opportunity to make an impact with TAC, and I’m excited for everything this new chapter will bring!

Mara, Girls Inc. of Upper Canada

Hi, I’m Mara! I’m a 10th grade student in Brockville, Ontario. I hope to become an elementary school teacher. I’ve been involved with Girls Inc. for over 8 years. I started out just doing camps but now I volunteer for lots of different projects such as Groceries for Girls, and as a Junior Facilitator. I enjoy dancing and am part of a competitive dance in my hometown. I am so excited to make new friends who have similar work ethics and goals!

Mia, Girls Inc. of Durham

Hi there! My name is Mia, and I am a junior in high school from Courtice, Ontario. I have been a member of Girls Inc. of Durham for 4 years, and it has helped shape me into a stronger, more confident young woman. I have many hobbies, some of which include playing volleyball, baking, creative writing, making iced coffee, and watching documentaries. Ever since I was a young girl, I have always had an interest in female empowerment. I love to advocate for gender inclusion and female equality. I have always been passionate about standing up for what I believe in. It was through this passion that I discovered I wanted to work in Human Resources. Working in HR will allow me to continue advocating for women’s rights, making sure women are being treated fairly in the workplace, and being rewarded equally for their work. I’m so excited to be a part of the Girls Inc. Teen Advocacy Council and meet other girls who are passionate about the same topics as me. Together we will help make a positive difference in our world.
