Martin Luther King Jr. Day, observed on January 19, 2026, honors the life and legacy of Dr. King, a visionary leader in the civil rights movement. This day serves as a reminder of his commitment to justice, unity, and positive change. It is a call to action, urging people to contribute to their communities through service,  and a continued dedication to Dr. King’s dream. At Girls Inc., we are inspired by Dr. King’s legacy as we inspire girls to be leaders,  and changemakers. Girls Inc. Brand Ambassadors share how Dr.King’s legacy motivates them to show up everyday in their communities. 

Berklee, a Brand Ambassador from Girls Inc. of Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey, reflects on what this day means to her and how Dr. King’s legacy continues to inspire her. “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy reminds me that leadership is rooted in service, courage, and commitment to uplifting others. His vision inspires the work I do with Girls Inc., where we encourage girls to use their voices, break barriers, and believe in their power to create positive change. Through Girls Inc., I’ve been given the opportunity to serve my community in meaningful ways mentoring younger girls, leading with empathy, and helping create spaces where girls feel supported, confident, and capable. 

These experiences have shown me that change doesn’t always start on a big stage; it often begins in our own communities. Honoring Dr. King’s legacy means continuing to show up, lead with purpose, and empower the new generation of girls leaders.” 

Leila, a Brand Ambassador from Girls Inc. of Indianapolis, shares her perspective on Dr.King’s legacy and its relevance in her own life. “On this day of acknowledgment, it is important that we do not simply remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but take time to reflect on how we can actively embody the principles he gave his life fighting to uphold: fairness, community, and action. Dr. King’s vision is founded on the power of collective responsibility; therefore, to see its fruition, we must remember that meaningful change begins when we invest in one another. When I reflect on the ways I strive to create positive change within my community, my involvement with Girls Inc. stands out as a powerful way I live out this value. 

The Girls Inc. mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold brings Dr. King’s vision to life by expanding access, opportunity, and support for young women. Through education, mentorship, and advocacy, Girls Inc. works to inspire girls to see themselves as leaders and change-makers. 

Being part of this work has shaped who I am and how I strive to contribute to something greater than myself. I am proud to continue supporting and participating in an organization that uplifts girls. As we honor Dr. King’s legacy today, I encourage others to reflect on how they, too, can take action, because building a better future for everyone is a responsibility we all share.”
