Girls Inc. has an award-winning downloadable game that is a smash hit with kids and adults! Candice and her 7-year-old daughter Emma are having a blast jumping through tubes, riding on rafts, and finding fruit bonuses - all in the virtual world of Girls Inc. TeamUp! We talked to this mother-daughter team to find out how they got hooked!
What do you like about Girls Inc. TeamUp?
Candice: It's very challenging, and you use a lot of logic skills. And what I really like about it is that Emma and I can do it together. We both figure out different things-- one of us will say, "Oh you can do this!" It's great because we really have fun together.
Emma: I like when I get to use all the different girls. The thrower has to throw somebody and the slider slides the boxes so the jumper can jump on them. It's really fun to do that stuff and move the characters around.
Candice: I think my favorite part is when the jumper goes into the funnel and then comes out the other side! You know what else I like, and I think Emma likes it, too-- when they turn on the radio and dance.
[Emma demonstrates just how much she likes this fun feature by doing her own dance to imitate the characters in the game.]
Candice: I also like that it gradually gets harder. You slowly get introduced to the game as you develop your skills, and you don't get discouraged. I remember we got through the first five levels pretty easily and we were so excited to get all the little rewards like the strawberries and the bananas and the noises!
Emma: And when you slide the box it'll say, "Powerslide!"
How is the game different than other games you've played?
Emma: It's fun creating your own level because you get to put everything where you want, like you can put the water anywhere and put the girls anywhere. You pick where you want to put the cloud and how hard you want it to be.
Candice: I love that it shows girls being strong and smart. The characters have to work together. You really have to use your mind. I also like the fact that there's no violence. It's just so different from anything I've seen. You can do it with your child and both of you are challenged. It's not like the parent is bored and the child is challenged.
Have you shared Girls Inc. TeamUp with your friends?
Candice: We had people over the other night and they were about to leave when Emma showed TeamUp to her friend. She didn't want to leave. She just wanted to stay and figure it out!
Emma: And it was like 11:00 at night!
Candice: I'm interested to see what happens as we get to higher levels, what twists there are. I think level 20 is pretty hard. We've been working on it. We're getting there!
