According to a study released by the Centers for Disease Control, one in four teenage girls has a common sexually transmitted disease. Roughly three million girls between the ages of 14 to 19 nationwide are infected with at least one STD monitored in the CDC study: the human papillomavirus (HPV), chlamydia, herpes simplex virus, and trichomoniasis.

Of the African American teen girls who participated in the study, nearly half were infected with an STD, compared to 20 percent of young white women.
