I am strong because I can lift my own weight. I am smart not just because I get As. I am bold because I am not afraid to stick up for my rights.
This summer, in observance of President Obama's United We Serve initiative and in commemoration of the first September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Girls Inc. girls throughout the United States chose and put into action projects to address the needs of their own communities. The projects include city, beach, and park beautification efforts, a nonviolence communication campaign, urban farming, and local environmental awareness. Twenty-five participating Girls Inc. organizations hosted a Day of Service for their participants that focused on empowering girls to see themselves as leaders who can create lasting change in their communities.
United We Serve is President Obama’s national call to service challenging all Americans to engage in sustained, collaborative, and focused service in their communities. United We Serve is being led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that improves lives and strengthens communities though volunteering and service.
