Girls Inc.: Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.

I am strong because I can lift my own weight. I am smart not just because I get As. I am bold because I am not afraid to stick up for my rights.

Girls Inc. Teaches Girls to Invest

At a time when the public at large is shying away from investing and the gender gap in the finance industry is growing, Girls Inc. is giving girls the skills to become savvy investors and independent money managers. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, nearly 3% of female workers in the financial services sector have left the industry since 2000. The gender gap in the industry is even wider among younger employees: over the last 10 years, the number of women between the ages of 20 and 35 working in finance has dropped by 16.5%, while the number of men in that age range grew by 7.3%. We recognize the urgent need to instill in girls the knowledge and confidence it takes to become financial experts.

Through the ING-Girls Inc. Investment Challenge, teams of girls, under the guidance of ING employee volunteers, build and manage diversified, real-time, virtual portfolios worth $50,000. This innovative program gives participating girls practical, hands-on investing experience while allowing them to keep their gains in the form of college scholarships and contributions to their local Girls Inc.
