GIRLS INC. HOSTS TWENTY TEEN GIRLS FOR NYC ENTREPRENEURSHIP CAMP

6-Day Experience Opens Girls’ Eyes To Business World

New York, NY (July 12, 2011) — From July 17 - 22, Girls Inc. hosts twenty teen girls from across the United States for the Girls Inc. Corporate CampSM for Entrepreneurs in New York City. This initiative gives girls a hands-on opportunity to build leadership and financial skills while exploring the benefits and challenges of business ownership with successful women entrepreneurs. Girls Inc. Corporate CampSM for Entrepreneurs is sponsored by the Sam’s Club Giving Program.

Four Girls Inc. Corporate CampSM for Entrepreneurs teams will learn what it takes to start and operate a business, attend workshops on financial management, business development, and presentation skills, visit women-operated businesses, and present their plans to women business owners.

Teams are selected from a competition in which Girls Inc. girls submit business plans for an original product or service. The winning teams hail from Florida, Indiana, Nebraska, and Texas:

  • Beyond the Mall Rat  — Girls Inc. of Sarasota County (Sarasota, FL)
A website for teens to locate affordable, teen-friendly businesses and positive activities

  • Sole Mates — Girls Inc. of Jackson County (Seymour, IN)
A comfortable and fashionable shoe with switchable designs

  • Perfect Start Collegiate Kit — Girls Inc. of Omaha (Omaha, NE)
A compact, travel-ready kit for teen girls with everyday necessary items

  • 5G — Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (Arlington, TX)

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for participating girls to take on the challenges of being an entrepreneur, be mentored by successful women, and gain insight into the business world,” said Judy Vredenburgh, President and CEO of Girls Inc. “We are thrilled to be working with the Sam’s Club Giving Program, who recognizes the importance of giving girls real-life skills to develop innovative ideas, pursue fulfilling careers, and achieve economic independence.”

“We are proud to support Girls Inc. and this program because of the immediate opportunities it creates for the participating girls, but more importantly because of its potential long term positive impact on their futures,” said Neil Sarreshteh, Sam’s Club Giving Program Council Member.
