274 girls took part in the Beacon Street Girls Friendship Survey. Here's a look at what girls said about friendships, fitting in, and rules you would change...

36% of girls chose boy-crazy, flirtatious Maeve as the character from the Beacon Street Girls book series that they relate to the most!

Some of the traits girls look for in a friend include:

  • "Kindness"
  • "Nice
  • "Trustworthy"
  • "Funny"
  • "Sincere"
  • "Smart"
  • "Caring"
  • "Honest"
  • "Adventurous"
  • "Respectful"

225 girls admitted that they were the new girls in school at one point in their lives. Here?s how they felt:

  • "I felt completely thrilled to make new friend and to show that I do rock!! I wasn't even worried about bullies or that people would not want to be my friend. I just held my head high and showed everyone just how perfect I was."
  • "When I was the new girl I felt kind of scared and nervous but at the time I felt kind of excited."
  • "It was horrible, but I learned from that experience."
  • "Yes, it was weird because everybody stared at me and I did not know anyone."
  • "Yeah, I have been the new girl and I felt really scared and hated it."

Over 200 girls shared described their most embarrassing moments! Including:

  • "When I fell down the school stairs."
  • "My most embarrassing moment was when my friend told me something a boy supposedly said about me and then I asked him and he said something rude to me in front of everyone."
  • "I was talking with a piece of lettuce hanging between my braces."

Over 50% admitted having a special meeting place with their friends. Some of the places where they meet up include:

  • "Bus stop"
  • "tree house"
  • "The rectangular table at lunch"
  • "The park swings"
  • "Our barn"
  • "The mall"
  • "The skating rink"
  • "Eileen?s room"

229 respondents described a rule they would change if they could! Here?s what they would change:

  • "The uniform, it sucks eggs!" "If I could change one rule in school it would be the rule where we can't wear flip-flops (that's stupid)."
  • "That we could eat in class only if we clean up."
  • "No cliques!"
  • "No tests!"
  • "Gum chewing"
  • "The no hats policy. I think it's unfair that we don't get to wear hats in school."
  • "That you can go to the bathroom without making a huge announcement in class!!!"
  • "Probably that we could be a little late (like 2 minutes) and the teacher wouldn't get too mad at you. Sometimes it is hard going all the way from one side of the school to the other side of the school without being just a little bit late every once in a while!"
